No pain, no gain, right?
So over the course of the last week or so I’ve begun to experience some major discomfort at night and early morning. On Tuesday morning it was so bad that I decided to make a doctor’s appointment as a precautionary measure. The doctor examined me and said everything felt and looked normal and the baby’s heart beat was normal and strong – so that was very reassuring, but he couldn’t pin point exactly where the pain was originating or why it was occurring. It was more severe and aggressive than the normal “growing pains.”
On a good note, last night there was no pain and I slept fairly comfortably through the night.
At any rate, I am going to continue to monitor my body and hope that this all stems from Little Baby K’s continuing growth and increasing movement.
Our Little Soccer Player
So this morning I was awoken by a sharp jab, tightness and bulge in my belly. I look down and my belly is sticking out on the right side a good 2 inches. Our little man was kicking and stretching so much that it woke me up and caused me to shift my body to the right side. What a surreal feeling and sight to see at 6:30AM. This was my first real experience and sense of movement – at week 19.
Today we have another ultrasound appointment at Rex – but with a UNC ultrasound specialist. They want to do a more detailed/high quality ultrasound to check his heart. The last appointment was positive but they were unable to locate a specific ventricle leading from the heart – so they want to check it.
Name for Little Baby K
So now that we know Little Baby K’s going to be a little baby boy, here’s a poll of the names we’re considering. Amanda and I are having a hard time agreeing on a first name, but we have whittled it down to the four following:

Wardrobe Already Built Up
So on the heels of Amanda getting a mammoth package from Florida with a near entire maternity wardrobe, Little Baby K’s clothes closet is also piling up quite nicely. Finding out Little Baby K’s gender earlier this week has been quite the catalyst for the clothes to start flowing in. The local grandparents went on a mini-shopping spree, finding a bunch of deals and a vast variety of super cute clothes. I’m sure the Florida-based grandparents aren’t going to be any different.
If this little guy’s grandparents (both sets) have their way, this kid is going to be spoiled rotten.
Shopping Extravaganza for Baby K
Nothing beats strolling down Franklin Street in Chapel Hill on a Sunday afternoon shopping for our little soon-to-be Tar Heel. We had lunch with the Ryan’s parents and then commenced shopping for a few hours. The selection of carolina blue baby clothing was abundant and quite overwhelming – pictured left is the results of our afternoon on Franklin!
We had a lot of fun and enjoyed the time with the Keefer parents…
The Boy’s Kickin’
So about 4am this morning, Amanda rolls over. I put my my arm over her, resting my hand on her stomach. I started feeling something. I’m pretty sure our little guy is kicking. It happened probably a good 10 times. Amanda doesn’t think she’s felt a kick yet, but I’m convinced that’s what I was feeling. Bongo, our Beagle felt left out, and inched over little by little across the bed so he could get his nose and ears scratched. He didn’t want the only boy getting attention in the family.
Our Little Baby Boy!
Our healthy baby boy at 17 weeks, 5 days old! Look at our little exhibitionist!!! In the top photo it clearly shows that our little bundle of joy is a HE – a very proud and outgoing little man. The bottom images is a profile shot of his face – his lips were sucking in and out and he was very active.
We’re beyond happy and he’s healthy and developing perfectly. The doctor was pleased with everything she saw today. Our next scheduled appointment is in 4 weeks, but in the meantime we’ll be preparing the nursery, painting canvas and shopping for a little man who will be here soon!!
Little Baby K is…
… a little boy! Today’s ultrasound showed without a doubt that Little Baby K is a he. It’s so nice to be able to finally refer to our baby as the proper pronoun, rather than “it” or what have you. Today’s ultrasound pictures and another post to come.
Baby Names
Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks. There has been nothing of note on the baby front as of late. Amanda losing her job has kind of been our main focus. We’re trying to do even more belt-tightening with the possibility of becoming a single-income family, even if it’s just temporary.
Anyway, how sad, yet cute is it that as we sit at home watching programs on TiVo, and opening and closing credits roll, I’m mentally going through the actors’ (and others’) names to see if there are any I like, and if they mesh ok with our last name.
Names will come into play, and get whittled down here real soon if Little Baby K cooperates later this week. This coming Wednesday, we’ve got a big milestone, as we get an ultrasound that has potential to reveal if LBK is a boy I’d girl. Once we find that out, we’ll post that, along with a poll on potential names.
