All About Our Baby

So Amanda made the suggestion this morning that we create a little blog separate from Keefer Madness all about our little expectant baby. I’m surely not going to stop blogging over there, but expect more baby-related posts from us over here now and throughout the pregnancy and into the birth.

Tyler is Here!

Tyler Andrew Keefer was born this morning at 6:40am, weighing in at 7 pounds, 12 ounces, and measuring 21″ long.

He seems very content and we’re so proud, excited and satisfied on his strong and healthy arrival on this great day — September 17, 2009.

More details and posts to come, but in the meantime, thanks for eveyone’s messages, calls and visits!

Any Day Now…

So today’s appointment was an exciting one AND one we have both been anticipating for some time now. I’ve dilated to 4cm and the doctor couldn’t believe I wasn’t already in labor and/or that Tyler wasn’t already here-given my progression and current condition. She said, “my water was about to break at any moment and it was very close…”, so we’re hoping in the next few days we’ll have our little man here!

If he doesn’t decide to come on his own, they’ve set a induction date of September 23rd.

Any day now…we begin to count the hours…

Another Appointment, Another Week Closer

So we just another weekly check-up appointment. Like so many appointments before, this was another great visit. I have dilated to 3cm, 75% effaced and Tyler is measuring within normal ranges. The doctor said Tyler is approximately 7.5-8lbs. I was given the flu shot, which is very important and thus Tyler is also protected once he’s here – critical as we approach the winter season.

She also said it was unlikely for him to go past the due date… T-minus 9 days!

National Geographic – In the Womb

We just finished watching a great National Geographic produced documentary called “In the Womb.” The 90 minute program utilizes a combination of 3-D and 4-D ultrasound images, along with some amazing and lifelike computer graphic simulations and visualizations. I highly recommend buying or renting the DVD for anyone who has or is having kids. The visuals and information is pretty breathtaking, unbelievable and informative. Amazon link is below.

Moving Ever Closer to Tyler’s Arrival

Wednesday afternoon we had yet another bi-monthly check-up with typical checks of urine, blood pressure, weight, and blood work. All tests and checks were great. We also learned that I was 2 centimeters dilated and effacing (or thinning) has begun, which is just further confirmation we are getting closer to Tyler’s arrival.

I still feel great with occasional back pain or acid reflux. I know we’re both ready to meet our son and begin our journey as a Mommy and Daddy – a life changing role that we are both excited about and have anticipated for a very long time.

We’ve got the house ready, most of the essentials bought, house has already undergone the childproof transformation and I’ve been “nesting” for a few months now…

Our appointments have now increased to once a week, so we should have another update soon!

T-minus 21 days and counting to the due date.

Another State, Another Shower

amanda-ryan-showerSo while we were down in Florida, a few weeks ago, Amanda had her baby shower with a bunch of friends and family down there — the traditional women’s get-together with lots of little finger foods, gifts, etc.

Thanks to my sister and mom, we had a second shower-type event up here. This one was less traditional, with about equal parts men and women. Plus, our get together today, had a ton of Rock Band on the Xbox. More on that, including some pics to come tomorrow when Amanda and I aren’t exhausted from the cleaning, mowing and miscellaneous prep and the actual hanging out this afternoon. Thanks to everyone that showed up and hung out! More on this soon.

Slight Momma/Baby Scare Today

So Amanda had been giving me trouble about not making a blog post on here in awhile. She sure had a dramatic way to get me to make an entry.

So Amanda doesn’t work these days on Fridays, and uses it as a down and restful day. This morning, she planned to do as such, with a little housework to prepare for having some people over tomorrow afternoon — starting out with some laundry and then breakfast. Immediately, she knew something was not right, as she sat in front of the TV, eating her oatmeal. Something was obviously wrong with her vision. As she IM’ed me and had CNN on, she realized anything text-based was blurry and unreadable. She started to worry as Tyler’s kicks were few and far between — an uncommon event these days as we are under two months to Tyler’s due date.
